Stewart, Olbermann show true faces
Do you know what stupider than cheerleading for Republicans? It’s cheerleading for Democrats.
The gloves are coming off with pundits who have for the last six years built their careers bashing and condemning Bush and his party. You can’t even call it criticizing because that requires at least objectivity.
Before I continue, I want to ensure you I am not on the Christmas card mailing list of the GOP.
But now that the Democrats are on the verge of possibly, maybe, perhaps gaining one or both houses of Congress, the voices of dissent of what has been wrong with our government are now revealing themselves as being in the corner of the Democrats not their viewers.
The pundits are namely John Stewart of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and Keith Olbermann of MSNBC’s Countdown.
All this time, I thought these guys were out to get the people in power. The people misguiding our country, distracting the people with candy sound bites while it pick pockets the wallets of hardworking people. I’ve now learned that they have just been pecking away at the House of Bush, McCain, and Frist to make room for the Democrats.
Now, I am a registered Democrat but that only means I disagree with the party less than I do with the Republicans.
But on the eve of this year’s midterm elections, all the critics are now defenders of the Republicans, calling foul on the party’s every move while looking the other way when the Democrats elbow their opponents as they fall from power.
I mean for crying out loud Olbermann gave President Clinton a donation to his foundation ON AIR and Stewart has to wipes the dirt off his knees whenever he has a Democratic-friendly guest on his program. Plus Olbermann can’t write “Special Commentaries” bashing Bush (which are fair but that is besides the point) fast enough to watch his ratings increase (slightly). Fair question: would he write the same “Special Commentaries” if Kerry were president?
What do they really think is going to happen when and if Democrats gain power? House minority leader Nancy Pelosi has already said she will not move to censure Bush. The best and most likely outcome is government will come to a standstill for the next two years until the presidential election.
A Democratic congress bickering with Bush and disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing is not going to solve Iran, Iraq, North Korea, our country’s energy crisis, immigration, poverty or getting cats and dogs fixed.
Unfortunately, in the process of trying to appease every one, the Democrats have abandoned nearly all of its founding principles. The party now only stands firm on aborting babies and saving some icebergs at the North Pole.
I have yet heard from Democrats what they plan to do with Iraq except deny Bush more funds to support the soldiers there. Instead of working with what they have, which include Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield, the Democrats are going to be brats and sit on their hands until they have everything they need to do what they haven’t told us yet.
Plus, do the Democrats really deserve being in power? They are only going to be voted in because Republicans scandals. Is that the legacy Democrats want? To be the party not worse than the party of Mark Foley? Wonderful.
And this is the party Stewart and Olbermann are selling out to? Why??
I mean if they are going to support a party for the sake of supporting a party, the smart thing to do is back a winner. I mean, it makes more sense.
But if they were for change in this country, they would get out of the corner of both parties and back progress in this country. And at the same time, put in check but the Democrats and Republicans.
I hope they prove me wrong after Nov. 8. Well see if their puns and jokes continue if the Democrats in power.
Remember what's the difference between a Republican and a Democrat? One sucks and the other blows.

I agree with you when you say that both parties suck. But what Mr. Stewart and Mr. Olbermann are doing, I do not see as cheerleading for Democrats, or even against Republicans. I think Stewart and Olbermann and others like them are speaking out for liberal ideals and against conservative ones. There's a difference between championing the party's beliefs and defending or promoting how poorly politicians represent those beliefs. To me Stewart and Olbermann aren't supporting the Democrats.. at the very least they're attacking the GOP, and at best they are speaking up for their own political beliefs. Although today's Democrats may not represent those ideals, they show more promise of getting policy back to liberal, progressive position than the Republicans. It shows more of a frustration with the entire political system and the GOP. I do agree with you though that they should speak for the people and not for any political party, but I understand why, at least right now, they're acting like they are.
